Vitasoy Donates HK$2 Million to Fund Studies
of University Students with Disabilities

To commemorate the 60th anniversary of the founding of Vitasoy Group by the late Dr K.S. Lo, Vitasoy International Holdings Ltd. and the K.S. Lo Foundation announced yesterday (9 March 2000) the setting up of the "Vitasoy and K.S. Lo Foundation Bursaries for Students with a Disability".

A HK$2 million cheque -- with Vitasoy and K.S. Lo Foundation each contributed HK$1 million -- was presented last night at Vitasoy’s 60th anniversary cocktail to the University of Hong Kong. The donation will be used for the setting up an endowment fund for the bursaries to help students with a disability at the University who need financial assistance to complete their studies.

The cheque was presented by Mr. Frank Lo, Chairman of the K.S. Lo Foundation and received by Professor Y.C. Cheng, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Hong Kong of which the late Dr Lo was an alumnus.

The bursaries will be open for application by full-time undergraduate or postgraduate students with a disability at the University effective from the 2000-01 academic year.
Executive Chairman and Managing Director of the Vitasoy Group, Mr. Winston Lo, said: "When my father founded the Company, his wish was to produce a nutritious beverage which the less well off, who made up the majority of the population in Hong Kong and China at the time, could afford."

Operating a viable business and at the same time contributing to the well-being of the community through helping those in need has since then become an important part in the Company’s corporate mission, he said.

The establishment of the endowment fund has allowed us to give back in an organized manner to the community that has nurtured our growth over the years and supporting the education of young people who have financial needs is certainly a worthy cause, he continued.

With people all over the world becoming more health conscious and scientists focusing research efforts on identifying and confirming the nutrition values of the soya bean, Vitasoy is looking forward with confidence to growth and expansion into the global market, he said. "This will allow us to contribute even more to this community as a business as well as a corporate citizen."

Other than setting up bursaries to help needy students, to celebrate its 60th anniversary on 9th March 2000, Vitasoy has also launched a two-month special promotion giving out more than 2.6 million prizes to its customers to thank them for their support over the years.

All customers in Hong Kong and Macau can take part in this special promotion which started on 1st March and win prizes the instance they bought Vitasoy beverages with the "Vitasoy 60th Anniversary" label. All they need to do is to tear open the label on the pack to find the prize coupon underneath.

"We’ve come a long way in 60 years and we could not have done it without the support of our customers. The special promotion is a token of our appreciation that we hope will make them happy," said Mr. Lo.

In the years to come, Vitasoy will strive to continue its commitment to produce high quality beverages and food that provide nutrition to Hong Kong people as well as customers around the world, he said.
